I. Purpose and Objectives
Midocean University fulfills its pioneering role in e-learning through its belief that education should not be limited by distance or constrained by time.
This policy establishes the regulatory and quality framework for delivering distance learning programs with a high standard of academic quality.
II. Scope
This policy applies to all academic programs and courses, particularly undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
III. Definitions
- Distance Learning: An educational model delivered entirely within a digital environment, whether synchronous or asynchronous, without requiring physical attendance.
- Hybrid Learning: An educational model that combines synchronous live sessions with flexible asynchronous learning activities within the same academic program.
- Learning Management System (LMS): The unified digital platform through which courses are delivered and the educational process is managed.
IV. Core Policy Provisions
1. Instructional Design Standards
- All courses shall be designed in accordance with internationally recognized instructional design principles to ensure the quality of the learning experience.
- Each course shall include a clear description of learning outcomes, assessment methods, and the schedule of activities.
- Diverse learning materials shall be provided, including: Video content, Interactive materials, Simulations, and Practical exercises
2. Interaction and Communication
- Regular interactive sessions shall be conducted through virtual meetings between instructors and students.
- Online forums and discussion tools shall be utilized to promote collaborative learning.
- Student inquiries shall be answered within twenty-four (24) hours during working days.
3. Assessment and Academic Integrity
- A variety of assessment methods shall be adopted, including: Online examinations, projects, presentations, and continuous assignments.
- Academic integrity measures shall be implemented through plagiarism-detection software and online examination proctoring protocols.
- Examination schedules shall take into consideration the different time zones of students across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
4. Student Support
- Electronic support services shall be provided to assist with technical issues and digital learning challenges.
- Academic advising programs and career guidance services shall be made available online.
- A comprehensive digital library shall be maintained to provide access to peer-reviewed academic resources.
5. Student Technical Requirements
- Students shall possess the minimum technical requirements specified in the Digital Student Handbook.
- Students shall complete an orientation course in digital learning skills as part of the student induction program.
V. Quality Assurance
- Periodic reviews of course quality shall be conducted through student surveys and faculty evaluations.
- Learning and performance indicators shall be monitored to continuously improve the learning experience.
VI. Review and Updates
This policy shall be reviewed annually with the participation of faculty members and student representatives.
