I. Purpose and Objectives
Midocean University is committed to enhancing energy efficiency through the use of energy-efficient appliances and equipment across all its facilities, contributing to reducing electricity consumption, lowering operational costs, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting environmental sustainability objectives.
II. Scope
This Policy applies to:
- All buildings and facilities on the University campus.
- All academic and administrative departments.
- Classrooms, laboratories, and offices.
- All procurement, replacement, or maintenance activities related to electrical appliances and equipment.
- All faculty members, employees, and students, as well as suppliers and contractors when supplying or installing equipment within the University.
III. Definitions
- Energy-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Equipment and appliance designed to consume less energy while maintaining or improving the same level of performance, such as high-efficiency lighting systems, energy-efficient air conditioning systems, and electrical appliances with high energy efficiency ratings.
- Energy Efficiency: Achieving the highest level of performance using the minimum possible amount of energy without affecting the quality of services or operations.
IV. Core Policy Provisions
- Prioritize the procurement of highly energy-efficient appliances and equipment.
- Gradually replace outdated appliances with more efficient alternatives upon reaching the end of their operational life or during upgrade activities.
- Use energy-efficient lighting systems across all University facilities whenever feasible.
- Implement regular maintenance procedures for appliances and equipment to ensure continued operational efficiency.
- Switch off unused appliances and equipment to reduce electricity consumption.
- Enhance the awareness of students, employees, and faculty members regarding the importance of responsible use of electrical appliances and energy conservation.
V. Alignment with the Digital Learning Environment
Given the University’s reliance on an e-learning system, the following mechanisms shall be implemented:
- Use highly efficient devices and technologies to operate the University’s digital infrastructure.
- Electronically manage the operation of devices and classrooms to contribute to reducing energy consumption.
- Conduct electronic awareness campaigns on best practices for electricity conservation.
- Encourage switching off electronic devices after use and outside working hours.

- Apply energy efficiency standards when procuring appliances and equipment.
- Conduct periodic reviews of electricity consumption rates across university facilities.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical appliances and equipment.
- Replace low-efficiency lighting units and appliances with energy-efficient alternatives.
- Prepare periodic reports on electricity consumption and energy efficiency improvement rates.
VII. Performance Indicators
- Percentage of energy-efficient appliances and equipment out of the total appliances and equipment used at the University.
- Percentage reduction in electricity consumption compared with the previous year.
- Number of appliances or lighting systems replaced with energy-efficient alternatives annually.
- Percentage of compliance with energy efficiency standards during procurement processes.
- Percentage improvement in energy consumption efficiency across university facilities.
VIII. Review and Updates
This Policy shall be reviewed annually, or as required, taking into consideration the results of the performance indicators, developments in energy efficiency technologies, relevant legislation, and feedback received from the University’s departments and relevant stakeholders.
