Equivalency of Academic Credits

Introduction

Midocean University provides a course equivalency service to some students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs only, who have previously studied at universities, higher education institutions, or intermediate institutes. Accordingly, the university has established these regulations to clarify the standards for academic course equivalency for students applying to its bachelor’s degree programs, in addition to outlining the conditions, objectives, documentation requirements, and application process. This is to ensure a fully transparent equivalency process. These regulations also aim to ensure that students fulfill the approved credit hours required by the program, while emphasizing the quality of education in accordance with the university’s requirements and study system.

Objective of Equivalency

These regulations are designed to set the foundations and criteria necessary for the equivalency of students’ previous qualifications, ensuring the quality of education while allowing students to benefit from their previously completed credit hours.

Students must submit their equivalency requests using the designated form upon enrolling in any of the following programs:
• Bachelor of Management

• Bachelor of Project Management

• Bachelor of Information Technology

• Bachelor of Digital Media

• Bachelor of Digital Marketing

Supporting documents must be included, such as academic transcripts and detailed course descriptions.

  • Provision of an academic transcript listing all courses studied by the student at the educational institution from the post-secondary level up to the bachelor’s degree level only, provided that it is officially authenticated and stamped by an accredited academic institution.
  • The academic transcript must clearly include the student’s details, the academic degree obtained, the number of credit hours, and the grade for each course.
  • To be considered for equivalency, a transfer student must not have been dismissed from the previous educational institution for academic or disciplinary reasons.
  • After completing and attaching all required documents, the application will be reviewed within a period of three to four weeks from the date of submission.
  • A student may attach more than one academic transcript to the equivalency application. The maximum number of credit hours eligible for equivalency is 60 credit hours.

The equivalency fee is $98 per course. The total equivalency fees may be paid in up to four installments, depending on the total amount of fees due.

  • The university determines the number of transferable courses based on the Equivalency Committee’s evaluation and the extent to which the course content aligns with the approved academic course description at the university.
  • The same course cannot be transferred more than once if the student has previously studied it at two different educational institutions.
  • Credits for graduation projects, research, seminars, training courses, and workshops are non-transferable.
  • Transferred courses are marked with a (T) in the academic transcript to indicate that they are equivalent courses.
  • The Equivalency Committee makes the final decision regarding the number of courses approved for equivalency. The student has the right to submit inquiries or supporting documents within a maximum period of seven days from the date of being notified that the equivalency application has not been approved or that certain courses have been rejected.
  • The student’s GPA is calculated based only on the courses studied at Midocean University. Transferred courses are not included in the GPA calculation.

The university reserves the right to verify the authenticity of academic records and documents submitted by the previous educational institution. In cases where inaccurate or fraudulent information or documents are found to have been submitted, the university may take all appropriate legal measures, including final dismissal from the university, notifying the relevant authorities of the violation, and not refunding any fees paid or issuing any academic records, even if the violation is discovered after the student’s graduation. The university also reserves the right to revoke the degree awarded if it is proven that the degree was obtained based on inaccurate or fraudulent information or documents.
