I. Purpose and Objectives

Midocean University is committed to providing an academic and professional environment based on equality and respect, where the dignity of every individual is upheld.

This policy prohibits all forms of discrimination in all contexts within the University’s digital and physical community.

II. Scope

  • Relationships among employees (academic, administrative, and technical staff).
  • Interactions among students and their interactions with faculty members and administrative staff.
  • Interactions with suppliers, partners, and visitors.
  • All digital environments, including: E-learning platforms, Learning Management System (LMS), Institutional communication channels, and Virtual meetings.

III. Definitions

  • Direct Discrimination: Treating an individual less favorably because of a protected characteristic.
  • Indirect Discrimination: Applying a policy or practice that appears neutral but places a particular group at a disadvantage.
  • Protected Characteristics: Gender, religion, race, nationality, disability, age, marital status, and linguistic orientation.

IV. Core Policy Provisions

  • All forms of discrimination are prohibited across all digital and physical environments.
  • The University is committed to fair and transparent procedures for recruitment, evaluation, and promotion based solely on competence and performance.
  • Educational content and curricula shall be designed in accordance with the principles of diversity and cultural inclusion.
  • Administrative staff shall receive periodic training on the principles of diversity, inclusion, and anti-discrimination.
  • Clear and secure channels shall be provided for reporting discrimination incidents, with protection against retaliation.

V. Discrimination in the Digital Environment

Given the University’s fully digital nature, specialized measures shall be applied:

  • Applying universal design principles across all digital platforms.
  • Monitoring interactions within virtual environments to ensure appropriate and respectful communication.
  • Taking immediate action against any discriminatory content or behavior through electronic means.

VI. Complaint Submission Procedures

  • Complaints shall be submitted electronically through the unified complaints portal in the University’s management system.
  • Complaints shall be referred to the Anti-Discrimination Committee for review within seven (7) business days.
  • Complaints shall be resolved within thirty (30) business days while ensuring confidentiality of procedures and protection of complainants.

VII. Review and Updates

This policy shall be reviewed annually in alignment with the requirements of international accreditation bodies and best practices in the field of diversity and inclusion.
