College of Informatics at Midocean University Organizes a Symposium on Prompt Engineering and Effective Communication with Generative AI

On the evening of Saturday, 8 August 2026, Midocean University hosted a scientific symposium organized by the College of Informatics, titled “Prompt Engineering: The Science of Effective Communication with Generative AI.” The symposium was delivered by Dr. Ashraf Al-Said, a faculty member at the College.

The symposium was built around the central premise that the quality of outputs generated by generative AI models is closely tied to the way prompts are designed. It explored systematic approaches to prompt construction, introducing established frameworks such as RTF and CO-STAR, as well as prompting techniques including Zero-Shot, One-Shot, and Few-Shot prompting. The session also covered Role Prompting and the use of reusable prompt templates.

Moving beyond the fundamentals, the symposium examined a range of advanced techniques that enhance interaction with generative AI models. These included Chain-of-Thought prompting, Self-Consistency, the ReAct framework, Prompt Chaining, the Generate–Critique–Improve methodology, and Structured Output generation.

The symposium concluded with practical demonstrations highlighting the application of these techniques across diverse domains, including education, software development, and scientific research. These examples illustrated how prompt engineering can serve as a powerful tool in a wide range of professional and academic contexts.

This symposium reflects the College of Informatics’ commitment to keeping pace with the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and translating emerging developments into practical knowledge and skills that equip students to confidently and effectively engage with the tools of the digital era.
