Midocean University announces the suspension of new admission applications from graduates of educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates, in light of reports and a peer-reviewed international academic study published in the International Journal for Educational Integrity, a Springer Nature journal. The study identified numerous websites offering contract cheating services to students, including websites that appeared to be active in search engine results, with some using university logos to lend legitimacy to their services.
The decision forms part of the University’s measures to safeguard academic integrity and verify the actual readiness and academic preparedness of applicants. The suspension does not apply to students who have already received admission offers, nor to applicants who successfully pass the University’s approved assessment tools. The decision follows reports and investigations highlighting the spread of services that complete assignments and examinations on behalf of students, raising serious concerns about the value of academic qualifications.
Midocean University emphasized that the decision is a precautionary measure and is not directed against any particular entity. The University reaffirmed that academic integrity is a fundamental criterion in its admissions process and noted that it will continue to review its policies in accordance with international standards to ensure that its academic qualifications accurately reflect the actual capabilities of their holders, amid the growing prevalence of online cheating services and the challenges they pose to the future of higher education.
